Via erinmuse: It seems our alma matter is in the news again. Well, it *has* been about 10 years, and I suppose being mentioned in "High Times" magazine and "Sports Illustrated" wasn't enough. Nope. Now we've made international headlines. (as well as Fox news. And just in case none of this is enough, here's the article from the Daily India. And here's the full article from the Trenton Times as well as the Follow-up. *shakes head* There was just one kid in my graduating class who wore a turban, and he was very well respected by everyone at the school. I think he had been in classes with me since at least Middle School. I always thought the school I went to was fairly tolerant of other religions and ethnic groups, but apparently not. The offender was 18, so at least he'll be receiving punishment as an adult. Really though, I'm quite ashamed. *edited to add - We made it into High Times in 1998 I believe it was because someone had removed the "TS" from the school's name, making th side of the building read "HIGH TOWN HIGH SCHOOL". We made it into Sports Illustrated because our cheerleaders served laxative-laced brownies to a rival HS's cheer squad in 1999. (I think it was 99) Oh, and apparently our town is laced with respect. But you'll note that is a re-post of an article written in 1994. Tags: hhs Strangely Feelin': disappointed

My plans that were supposed to be for today got moved to tomorrow, so tomorrow I'm headed out to Paoli on the train to hang out with Sarah for the day. We'll mostly be at her hotel with our laptops, but it's nice to get away and it's especially nice to see Sarah, as she and Joe live all the way north of Winnepeg, but fortunately, he has business that takes him to Paoli every few months, and Sarah goes along so while I sometimes don't get to see Joe, I usually get to see Sarah once every two months or so. In ikky news for today, my mom's toilet stopped working, and this time I don't think I'm able to fix it. So, I suppose we'll have to call a plumber. Tomorrow night we're going to go to Lowe's and get the part I think it needs, and if that doesn't work we get t pay a plumber. How fun. I had such good luck last time with fixing it, so wish me luck that I can fix it again. In further ikky news, there's a spider on the loose. It was in my bathroom all the way up at the ceiling and I couldn't reach it, so I shut the bathroom door thinking that would keep it at least in the bathroom until it crawled down or until Mom came home....and I have no idea where it got to. I've been very cautious each time I've been in the bathroom...I have horrid arachnophobia. And a third ikky thing...Our front porch has a fine dusting of yellow pollen on it. It's on the floorboards,it's on the lounge, it's on the three chairs and it's coating the top of the table. Even better is that WITH taking allergy medicine I can't be out there to clean it off. I think I'll just drag the hose out, and just hose off everything. Might be the only way to deal with the pollen and well, make my allergies a little better. On the cold front, I am mostly better. Still sneezing/blowing my nose, but I think that can be attributed to my allergies today and not the cold I was suffering from. OOOOH and it's midnight, and that means it's memoryanddream's birthday! If only I had mailed her package out on time...ah, well. I still want to get one more thing for it, anyway. (locked post coming in a few)

They released the pricing and on-sale date for Ships and Dip V. The cheapest is a quad at $599+$219 (fees, tax, tips), but if mom and I were going to go, we were going to just get a double, which is $799+$219. I'm sort of glad I already opted out of going this year, because my flight to the UK is less than the cruise. Of course, I have to have the money for the flight all at once, and right now I don't yet, but still. The only thing that makes me sad, is the Weakerthans will be on the cruise this year. Great Big Sea and Boothby Graffoe (haha Tim and I were talking about him last night) both are returning, and so far they've added the Weakerthans and Butterfly Boucher. (and of course, BNL and their side projects). I'm a little surprised Guster isn't listed (yet), since Guster was the co-host the first year (and kind of the second year). There's also the absence of Carbon Leaf, so I guess they didn't convince them to do both The Rock Boat and S&D, which would be a disappointment for me, anyway. on III I got to see four out of five of my top five bands, and this year if Guster and CL don't go, then it's down to two. But....England is more important. As much as I know I'd love to do the cruise and have a blast....it's time for me to try something new, and well, I really want to go ahead and spend a few weeks/months over in the UK.
